A grassroots organisation busy working joyfully, to build and maintain dementia-centred communities
We exist to enable people with dementia to participate in relationships of mutual benefit with people in the same situation, but also with others. We run Clubs that include their carers, older adults with other long term conditions and volunteers as equal members. We all engage in activities that meet the need of people with dementia, but that all our other members participate in and enjoy as well. Our clubs are not services. They are communities within which there is no "us" & "them".
Why the community needs usWe replace loneliness with sense of belonging to a community within which sense of ownership is shared. The South London Health Innovation Network (HIN) measured the Social Return on investment of our Wednesday Club. Their study (published in September 2015) found that our annual expenditure of £30,784 (plus the resources in kind we leverage in, including £58,736 worth of volunteers' time) generate £506,094 worth of 'social value'.
Our impact on the community
We would love to have more people help us fundraise, but also help us spread our message that living well with dementia is possible
