Working together to give children in Harborough District the best possible start in life.

Formed in Market Harborough in 1984, we are an independent charity operating under the umbrella of Home Start UK as part of this global federation. We support families focusing on those with young children, who are struggling in their parenting role for a variety of reasons. We operate across the large rural District of Harborough, and for many families the rural geography, in addition to other family pressures compounds their difficulties and the isolation they feel.

Why the community needs us
To Home-Start South Leicestershire every family is special and we respond to each family's needs through a combination of high quality services - bespoke to the family's needs. We have a large team of dedicated, well trained volunteers supporting our projects to offer informal, non-judgemental, friendly and confidential support. We uphold a core ethos of one parent helping another - proven as an effective and well-received method of supporting families.

Our impact on the community
Through our projects and by working creatively together with local voluntary and statutory partners we bring real and lasting positive change to the lives of local children and families. Our help reduces isolation, improves mental health, keeps children safe, alleviates family stress, connects families with their communities and community resources, and equips parents with the tools to be the parents they want to be and the parents their children need them to be.

Volunteers needed

We need volunteers help with fundraising and promotions, to join the Trustee Board, and to become trained Peer Mentors to support families through our services..
