We are committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under 5.
We want to help more families overcome their difficulties and be a happier, stronger family as a result. We offer practical family support where it really matters - in the home. A well-trained volunteer visits a family needing extra help on a weekly basis and this support is completely free for the families concerned. The dedication and quality of our volunteers, who are all parents themselves, is reflected in the real difference they make to the lives of the parents and children.
Why the community needs usHome-Start helps families overcome their problems, grow stronger and stay together. The stresses of modern life, coping with a young children with little or no support from relatives place great strain on families. We help by understanding and listening to what each family needs are and finding the right volunteer to help them tackle their problems. Some parents we help go on to volunteer for us - either as visiting volunteers or in our shop and cafe.
Our impact on the communitySince its establishment, Home-Start Watford and Three Rivers has supported over 1,000 families and 2,500 children. One family said recently: "It was like having a mountain of stress that someone came along and removed the top off". We help families overcome loneliness, cope with illness or disability, connect with the community and much more.
Volunteers are our life-blood - without them, there would be no Home-Start. We need volunteers who visit families in their homes. We also have a charity shop to help us raise extra funds
