HOMETRUTHS is a community based, not-for-profit specialist service for anyone aged 16+ who is, or has experienced domestic violence and abuse including stalking & harassment from partners, ex-partners or family members, living in Swindon & Wiltshire. We support survivors of domestic abuse to keep themselves & their children safe, to understand their experience & deal with the emotional impact on their lives. We run groups including the Freedom Programme, host a Survivors' Forum. Why the community needs us
1 in 4 women experience domestic abuse in their lifetime whether physical, emotional, sexual, financial or psychological. Over 4,500 incidents of domestic abuse are reported to the Police in Swindon & Wiltshire annually, but only 20% of people report to the Police. HOMETRUTHS supports anyone experiencing domestic abuse whether they have reported to the Police or not. Because a woman is killed every 3 days in the UK by a violent partner or ex-partner HOMETRUTHS helps keep people safe from harm. Our impact on the community
"HOMETRUTHS has saved my life. I didn't realise what was happening to me until it was too late, I just didn't know it was domestic violence...all the support, information, coming with me to court and linking me in with the right people like a solicitor and at housing has been invaluable, I just didn't have the energy or knowledge to know what to do and without HOMETRUTHS I know I'd have given in and let my ex back in my life and I just know things would have got even worse. Thank you so much!".
We welcome contact from anyone interested in helping to raise funds, raise awareness of HOMETRUTHS and our work, and volunteering for specific projects that we run throughout the year. We have an application process involving an interview, CRB checking and training. Successful volunteers will be supervised and supported throughout their time volunteering with HOMETRUTHS.
