Promoting positive Mental Health and reducing stigma through the power of football
Hounslow Hawks FC provides support for people who experience mental illness, live in the Borough of Hounslow and are in receipt of specialist mental health services. We use the power of football to assist with the individual's recovery journey by aiming to increase self-esteem and confidence, social interaction, reduce social isolation, improve players structure and routines and aid personal development. We promote positive physical and psychological wellbeing.
Why the community needs usHounslow Hawks F.C is a unique project based in Hounslow, which is funded through charitable grants and fundraising activity. It promotes a therapeutic, safe and supportive environment, which allows its members to feel part of a team and take part in an activity which they may normally be excluded from due to their illness. The project promotes positive well-being both mentally and physically
Our impact on the communityPlayers can attend the Hawks for up to two years to assist them with their recovery journey. Members have reported improved mental wellbeing, confidence and self esteem. They feel accepted; have made new friends, but most of all have fun playing football in a supportive environment where they do not feel judged. Quote from a player "Before I started playing for hawks I was always feeling scared, shy, worried, alone and suicidal, but now I feel like my life is going far and is worth living"
