LifeStory Project
Staff and volunteers will work with 30 children to allow them to tell their life stories helped by drama, art and storytelling workshops. Experience has shown us that this allows children to ask questions about their lives and their experiences that they would not ask their kinship carer. Our LifeStory Project will support children talk about their earlier experiences, help improve their confidence, self esteem and resilience and support them develop positive relationships with their carers.
Why they need our service Children live with extended family members or friends because of a variety of reasons. Some children have experienced the death of a parent, while other children living with relatives because of a family illness, domestic violence or parental alcohol and drug related difficulties.Children have lots of questions about why their mum or dad cannot look after them. Our LifeStory Project supports children understand their family situation better and helps them move forward positively with their lives
Plan and expected results 30 children age 6-11 years will work alongside staff and volunteers to complete their very own LifeStory Workbook. Children will be helped make sense of their past and the reasons why they have come to live with a member of their extended family. Children will be able to insert photos of themselves, complete quizzes, draw their handprints and design their very own castles. They will also be able to design their own superheroes, establish goals for themselves and record their achievements.
