We help refugees/migrants in Hounslow/Kingston/Richmond areas improve their English language skills
Learn English at Home (LEAH) works in Kingston, Richmond and Hounslow with highly vulnerable, marginalised refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. Our beneficiaries are referred to us by our strong network of referral partners including GPs, health visitors, midwives and schools. We enable them to gain confidence, develop support networks, access services for themselves and their children and make their first steps towards college, volunteering and employment. Why the community needs us
Our volunteers usually deliver our one to one (1:1) service for vulnerable clients, often with significant challenges and barriers to learning outside the home. Our volunteer tutors offer free language support and create a bespoke programme of study that helps each client to tackle their daily practical challenges. We also deliver community classes annually for clients who are able to learn in a community based setting but would not be able to access college due to other barriers. Our impact on the community
In response to the Coronavirus we have temporarily suspended our 1:1 home based ESOL support, community classes and social integration trips and visits for 350 clients annually and are now offering a remote 'keeping in touch' ESOL conversation service in the coming weeks as well as working to support coordinated local efforts.
We need volunteers to teach either 1:1 or in small groups. No experience necessary, full training provided. We are interested to hear from volunteers who would like to help us deliver our service remotely during Coronavirus crisis. Go to leah.org.uk
