Enabling children and young people with additional needs to access mainstream leisure activities
By recruiting and training volunteers from the local community, Me2 Club are able to support children and young people aged between 5 - 19 years old to access mainstream leisure activities, e.g. uniformed organisations, sport groups, art clubs, swimming lessons, youth clubs and many more! We are hoping to grow further allowing more children and families to be supported.
Why the community needs usThe Me2 Club was established by parents of children with additional needs who recognised that their children were not able to access leisure activities in the local community, often leaving them isolated and excluded with limited opportunities to socialise with peers. The Me2 Club addresses this need for social inclusion, whilst offering a unique volunteering opportunity to those in the local area. There is no other organisation offering this support within Wokingham and beyond into Reading.
Our impact on the communityMe2 Club supports 100+ children and young people each year with additional needs to access mainstream activities across the borough. This enables them to develop communication skills, build confidence from friendships and have fun! This in turn provides parents with a period of respite each week, enables activity providers to offer a more inclusive group and gives mainstream children the chance to spend time with someone they may perceive as 'different', thus fostering a more inclusive society.
We recruit and train volunteers to support young people aged 5 - 19 years with additional needs to access mainstream leisure activities. Volunteers go along each week to the activity and support the young person to join in and have fun!
