Creating beautiful, inspirational woodland spaces - in memory of Mia Elcock and her love of nature
Mia's Wood provides inspirational natural spaces for the local communities of Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire to enjoy. These woodlands will be places of beauty, love and hope for all, captivating the wonder of nature through education, recreation and conservation activities. Our activities extend from: planting trees, shrubs and plants; to woodland maintenance skills; to creating art and events based around nature, conservation and environmental sustainability. Why the community needs us
Mia's Wood hopes to pass on Mia's love of nature to local families, children and young people, and especially to bereaved families. At Mia's Wood, we want to create an environment which promotes an innocent wonder of nature, to stimulate curiosity and imagination, to encourage children to preserve our fragile natural woodland through both visits and special events. For bereaved families in particular, we would like to think that visits to Mia's Wood will provide both hope and solace. Our impact on the community
Mia's Wood is a local charity, set up by Mia's family & friends. We hold an annual fundraising ball, and each September, we hold a FREE outdoor children's nature festival on Mia's Wood. In 2015 this attracted 500 people! We are also expanding into offering Mia's Wood as a site for local Forest Schools, which is proving popular. In the summer of 2016, we have started to offer monthly nature activities for children alongside our maintenance days, and we hope to have a camping night too.
We are looking to work with community groups, local schools and nurseries who wish to encourage children to experience the wonder of nature. We would also welcome links with art and performing groups interested in innovative ways about communicating about nature through art, sculpture or theatre.
