A place where people of differing abilities and disabilities can enjoy the Folk Arts
The Milkmaid Folk Arts Centre CIC has been set up to give the county a centre where people from all backgrounds age and origins whether disbled or able-bodied can meet, learn and enjoy the world of music, drama and art through tutorials, workshops, concerts, therapy and social settings. Our aim is to offer a day centre to people with disabilities, ethnic minorities and people who are socially excluded, where they can meet and enjoy various art forms, particularly the folk arts.
Why the community needs usThe Milkmaid; a centre of achievement, an inspirational place where people with disabilities, and those without, can enjoy and benefit from music and the arts, whilst also producing new material and safeguarding traditional arts. A place where people of differing abilities can together enjoy music and art. We have taken over the Artheads Music and Arts group who support people suffering with Mental Health issues and people recovering from Alcohol and Substance misuse and other addictions.
Our impact on the communitySince the Milkmaid CIC started in 2007, we have had great success with our activities, having over 35,000 people attend our events. Our Learning Disability music and dance groups have performed at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds in front of an audience of 500 people twice and received a standing ovation for both events. Our dance group called Milkmaid Molly have danced at festivals, fetes, fairs, town and village squares and public houses all over Suffolk.
Volunteers are required to assist with refreshments on the third Thursday of each month at the Milkmaid Thursday Club. This is a folk club for people with disabilities. We also need volunteers to help at our Learning Disability Milkmaid Molly
