Help us support some of the most vulnerable and at risk young people in Hampshire
Young people tell us that they are growing up in a world where they face enormous pressure and that they have huge uncertainty about their futures. Last year 90% of the young people that we supported were struggling with mental health worries, especially loneliness, low self-confidence, low mood or concerns about their parents or carers. In the last 6 months the team at Motiv8 have supported over 900 young people, giving them hope and encouraging them to tackle the pressures in their lives.
Why the community needs usYoung people like Jana age, 15, who is receiving support following the death of her only carer, her mum, earlier this year."I have managed to cope with life a little better and I am always looking forward to my Motiv8 days. Without my one-to-one worker I would still be alone in my room self-harming. Nothing can compare to the level of respect, support and guidance Motiv8 provide me with." Our impact on the communityMotiv8 worked with over 2000 young people from Portsmouth, Havant, Waterlooville, Gosport and Fareham in 2017. Giving a young person the opportunity to develop personally or give increased options for training and learning can lead to better employment opportunities. Some young people may simply gain the confidence to return to education, whilst others are diverted from a life of crime.
Motiv8 welcomes volunteers and opportunties exist in many areas. This can include acting as a mentor to a vulnerable young person; offering special skills, such as school subject tuition. Or maybe you are a sports coach and able to give up a few hours each week to help with our open access programmes. Motiv8 also has a community cycle centre for those who are interested in helping to rejuvinate donated cycles. There are no qualifications required and we offer a range of training.
