There are 36,000 people living with a neurological condition in our region. The Charity delivers an Advocacy, Information and Signposting service to enable people to have a better understanding of their condition, access good information and peer support. We offer an education programme delivering 'lived experience' seminars to involve service users and caregivers and influence medical, psychology and rehabilitation students who will be the NHS or social care professionals in the future.

Why the community needs us

We illustrate the core value of working in partnership with professionals, service-users and caregivers to improve confidence and problem-solving skills, Our service-user groups are involved in a continuous cycle of communication between people who use the services and people who provide the services to improve the care of someone with a neurological condition. In 2016, we were shortlisted for 2 Voluntary Sector awards, 'Working in Partnership' and 'Lasting Legacy' for our education programme.

Our impact on the community

A person met Charity representatives at an event and asked for help. Symptoms from a head injury following a car crash were causing difficulty but they had no support apart from the GP and felt very isolated. We made a referral to a Head Injury specialist nurse who contacted them within hours, introduced them to a Headway support group and we had peer support available from someone in a similar situation. We ensure first contact with us counts, we understand how stressful life can be.
