New Hope supports and enables disabled children to access leisure opportunties of their choice.
The project supports children with severe disabilities to access leisure activities every school holiday and every Saturday.By attending the project children are less socially isolated. They are supported to access leisure opportunties of their choice, for example horse riding, swimming and bowling. Whilst the children attend the project their parents/carers receive regular daytime respite care.
Why the community needs usWe are contributing to our community by providing jobs, working with organisations to include all sections of our neighbourhood to improve its facilities locally. We have just helped with a community questionnaire asking people what services they want delivered on our estate. We are partnership working with the Sure Start centre to deliver a 'play n stay' for parents of children with disabilities. We have opened our centre as an extra facility for community groups to use, thus improving our area
Our impact on the communityChildren attending our project have gained new opportunties to try new activities such as Archery and Mountain Boarding! The sense of achievement they gain as a result of accessing New Hope improves their self esteem. Attending the project promotes and supports socialisation which lessen social isolation. Children are able to access activities, often for the first time. Parents report their well being improves due to receiving regular breaks from their caring responsibilities.
We need volunteers to help us transport our children to various activities. Volunteers must be willing to use their own cars and have business insurance (this will not cost the car owner) mileage and other associated expenses will be paid. In addition to this we need volunteer playworkers to support and enable our children to access their chosen leisure activities.
