NYRDA, run by volunteers, relies on local support to meet its operating costs of £20,000 per annum
A Member Group of Riding for the Disabled Association Incorporating Carriage-Driving (charity number 244108), New Yatt RDA provides disabled people in the West Oxfordshire area with the opportunity to ride at our purpose built equestrian centre in North Leigh. We currently have 7 horses and ponies and provide over 1350 rides a year.
Why the community needs usOur riders may have a physical disability, learning difficulties or emotional problems. Some may have more than one special need. Each NYRDA session will comprise 2 or 3 small groups of riders of similar age or riding ability. Two of our weekday sessions during term-time cater for riders of school age. We also provide weekday sessions for adults. Our weekend sessions cater for riders of all ages and abilities. There is a waiting list of prospective riders.
Our impact on the communityRiding is widely recognised as an excellent form of therapy - building self-confidence, improving concentration, co-ordination and balance, providing recreation and sport. Best of all, riding is FUN and our riders regularly tell us how much they enjoy coming to New Yatt RDA
We are currently interested in hearing from new volunteers who are available on Saturday mornings and afternoons. Over 60 unpaid volunteers are actively involved in running the Group. During sessions, Helpers groom and tack up our horses and ponies; assist the qualified Instructors with mounting and dismounting riders and support the riders by leading or side-walking. Minimum age is 16 years. We undertake a CRB check on all aged 18+ (will cost £8)and provide training. See website for details.
