Preserving and celebrating the heritage of Huntingdonshire for future generations
The Norris Museum, 80 years old last year, tells the story of Huntingdonshire and its people with a fascinating collection of 30,000 artefacts - including the fossilized remains of Jurassic sea monsters, archaeological treasures, paintings, photographs and an important archive of the thrilling stories of championship Fen Skaters. It needs to expand and improve its facilities to continue offering a popular and exciting programme of events, projects and exhibitions for all ages in the community.
Why the community needs usThe museum has a volunteering scheme and delivers workshops for schools, community groups and families to discover how Huntingdonshire has been shaped over thousands of years. It offers "hands on" heritage activities to create a sense of identity for the community. Exhibitions often include work by local children and community groups. There is also a unique research library which attracts visitors from near and far.
Our impact on the communityThe museum will have a new gallery and an extension to create a learning space for schools and community groups. It will be able to set up local heritage projects in the community, reaching out to villages and promoting the important history of the area much more widely.
