Nourish provides emergency, short-term food and provisions to people in crisis in Tunbridge Wells
All our beneficiaries are referred via one of around 110 frontline service providers. Each bag contains 3 days' emergency food and provisions plus vouchers to be exchanged locally for fresh meat and vegetables when available. We support people on an emergency, short-term basis and help them by signposting on to agencies so that the underlying issues can be resolved. Our aim is "No one need be hungry in Tunbridge Wells, South Tonbridge and the surrounding areas".
Why the community needs usThe consequences of food poverty can be far reaching, including increased crime, loss of tenancies, mental health problems and family breakdown. Nourish can help provide more positive outcomes by offering a period of respite and an opportunity for change. We strive to discourage a culture of dependency, preferring to support families and individuals in crisis until they are able to move on. Our policy is to issue a maximum 12 bags to a family or individual in any 12-month period.
Our impact on the communityNourish is currently delivering between 200 and 250 food parcels a week to families and individuals in crisis due to Covid-19. In 2018/2019 we provided food for 7,014 people, 44% of these were children under 18. This was over 63,100 meals and it costs us on average £3 to provide each meal. By donating, you can help us remain sustainable and continue to help those who are vulnerable in your local community. Just £3 can help provide a meal and £27 can provide an emergency foodbag for 3 days.
We are looking for volunteers for Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am - 12pm shifts for packing and driving.
