Oasis is a charity that works to support people who have been affected by domestic abuse.
Oasis provides support across a range of needs and risks for those affected by domestic violence to ensure families get the support they need. Our RAISE team gives support to adults via our Refuges, High-risk IDVA support, outreach and support through the court process. Our Early Intervention and Prevention Team work with young people to reduce vulnerability and increase their resilience and safety. Our aim is to stop the cycle of violence and abuse.
Why the community needs usLast year we helped 654 adults, 569 children and trained 490 local professionals. On average, adult clients experienced 4.4 years of abuse before contacting Oasis. 17% had experienced threats to kill, 14% experienced strangulation or suffocation and 19% had thoughts of 'ending it all' or had attempted suicide. Of the children we mentored, 49% had directly experienced emotional abuse and 38% had directly experienced physical abuse.
Our impact on the communityWe are making Thanet and Dover safer, giving victims of abuse a voice and enabling professionals to deal with the abuse they encounter. Statistics around domestic abuse are hard to comprehend. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men experience domestic abuse in their lifetimes. 80% of the children we mentor have directly witnessed domestic abuse. Abuse is endemic, we need your help to support victims and end the cycle.
Oasis couldn't help as many people as we do without our team of fantastic volunteers. People who volunteer with us fundraise, organise and mentor to enable people affected by abuse become safer and happier.
