We are a member lead organisation that provides social recreation to adults with learning disability
Our Place (Barnsley) is a small organisation that provides social recreation to adults with learning disabilities. The organisation is lead by decisions made by it's members, meeting their ideas and needs is our top priority. Our aims and objectives are: To provide a safe, welcoming environment where people can meet with their friends and take part in social activities. To prevent social isolation. To maintain the physical and mental well being of our members.
Why the community needs usThe organisation helps to prevent social isolation within the learning disability community in our local area. Our members receive support to access healthy living services, members receive support with their physical and mental well being. This also provides much needed support to families and carers of our members, providing short, regular rest periods to them.
Our impact on the communityWe currently have 60 regularly attending members, (this numbers is growing). Our staff know each and every one of our members extremely well, we have seen a great deal of personal development within many of our members. Our members are very involved in decisions made about their service, this gives them a sense of ownership, pride, confidence and achievement. We have seen many existing friendships strengthen and many new ones form.
We would like support with a variety of roles to support us to continue with improving and expanding the service currently offered.
