To promote the human rights of children and young people with disabilities/longterm health conditions, through the empowerment of children and young people, their parents, the health, social care and educational professionals that work with them, and their communities, to speak up with and for them and their needs.
Why the community needs usParents support other parents in similar circumstances locally, in the family home, in parent 2 parent support and action groups, where they learn facilitation and other personal advocacy and development skills, building trust, friendship and connections with their local communities, which enables parents to speak up more effectively for their needs and those of their children and families, in public service provision (health, social care and education).
Our impact on the communityThrough our project work to date, 207 families have engaged with Parent Action, through home visit support, signposting, networking or in parent 2 parent action groups. Each parent, making contact with Parent Action has had the opportunity to shape and develop what we do, by discussing priorities for action, which have come from parents and children themselves. Parents have said about their experiences with Parent Action, 'the voice we are being given in this group is unbelievable'.
Parents, preferably of children and young people with disabilities, interested in or with experience in facilitation, group working, talking with other parents, supporting other families in similar situations to themselves.
