Befriending, support, activites, outings, social opportunities for isolated older people in Plymouth
The Befriending Consortium was established in response to an increasing demand for services activities and support for older people in Plymouth who faced social isolation, depression, anxiety and loneliness.
We provide range of volunteering opportunities for all and promote employment of over 50's, develop and participate in projects and events that bring different generations and cultures, help maintain and promote physical and mental health of older people, help plan future services.
Why the community needs usEnable older people to remain independent, to live and participate in their local communities and to use their life skills, experience and knowledge
To provide a range of volunteering opportunities especially the support to enable more vulnerable people with mental health issues and learning disability difficulties to feel valued and contribute to society.
To reduce the stereotypical preconceptions of young and old and promote activities and events that encourage intergenerational interaction.
Our impact on the communityClients accessing our activities have found that the friendships they have formed have improved their quality of life, gives them something to look forward to and enables them to access a social network that respects and values them. Regular social contact helps improve physical and mental health. Staff and volunteers provide a vital support net. A recent 1950's afternoon proved a great success with those that attended enjoying 1950's style food, music and reminiscing about the 50's. Alot of fun
