This historic outdoor pool provides a much-loved leisure facility for Lewes and nearby residents.
The Pool Community Association aims to provide a safe, well-maintained, community pool that is affordable and enjoyable for all residents regardless of age or income. In partnership with members, the Town Council and volunteers we seek to foster community spirit, enhance family life and promote health and well-being. As stewards of this 150 year old pool, we look to maintain it not only for the current membership base, but for future generations to come. Why the community needs us
The pool is the oldest documented freshwater public pool in the country and has played a key role in the life of Lewes since it first opened to swimmers in 1860 and continues to bring pleasure to adults and children in the community. It provides a valuable local leisure facility that is especially important for young families, teenagers and those with limited transport. Our impact on the community
As well as providing an opportunity for members to take healthy exercise, the pool is a place where people of all ages from across the three parishes can meet, socialise, get to know one another, welcome newcomers and have fun together. At quiet times, the pool can also be a place of tranquillity, offering people a chance to relax and unwind.
