Pentreffest is an innovative, voluntary organisation which aims to encourage the development of traditional social dance events as a means of increasing a sense of community. The emphasis of events will be on opportunity, inclusion, participation and fun. Everyone, regardless of age or ability, is encouraged to "have a go". We run 10 monthly workshop and dance events, a Christmas special (Jingle Bal) and an annual weekend festival with invited musicians and teachers from Europe.
Why the community needs usWe provide a space where all generations can mix together and share in an activity that promotes a sense of community with the added benefit of being good for you physically and mentally. In addition as we concentrate on repertoire from across northern Europe with tutors from Brittany, France, Belgium, Norway and Sweden we are building connections and language skills for our users.
Our impact on the communityOur regular events attract between 30 and 120 people who are learning a large repertoire of dances, increasing their mobility and learning skills, and having a lot of fun doing it. We have carried out exchanges with similar groups in Brittany, and have made connections with groups in Sweden. We have an active "House Band" who regularly play for the dances.
We are looking for people to help out at our monthly workshop and dance event and to generally come and have a great time. We need people to man the entrance desk, help out with refreshments, help with music and dance teaching. What can you offer us?
