Play Therapy Base - Child friendly support through play for children who are struggling
The Play Therapy Base service aims to provide children aged 3 to 14 years with a child-centred therapeutic resource close to their local communities in Midlothian, East Lothian and Edinburgh. The Base offers a range of play therapy sessions working with individual children groups and parent and child together. The Play Therapists work in partnership with parents /carers and referrers to provide a dedicated therapeutic service which meets the needs of each individual child.
Why the community needs usPlay Therapy Base is able to offer accessible play therapy within the local community for children and a supported space for Parents, Carers and Professionals to talk about any concerns they have about the children they care for.
Our impact on the communityPlay Therapists at the Base were able to support 107 children during 2015. Feedback from children, parents and professionals, together with ongoing monitoring and evaluation all showed the positive impact of the service in supporting children. "He has increased his ability to play co-operatively with others in the class. I have noticed very marked improvement in self esteem" (teacher), "I've got my little boy back" (parent/carer)
