Using music to transform the lives of some of our most vulnerable children, young people & adults.
The work of Plymouth Music Zone (PMZ) has a profound personal, educational and social impact on participants. Highly skilled Music Leaders deliver a diverse range of interactive music making activities in our centre and out in the community. These engage people in their own musical and social development, improving areas such as communication and interpersonal skills, self-confidence and self esteem, physical ability, emotional and behavioural issues and overall well being.
Why the community needs usPlymouth Music Zone is especially passionate about helping those people who may be facing challenges in their lives to move forward and feel good about themselves. We use music to bring people together so they feel listened to, valued and part of something special. We provide vital respite for those who may feel lonely or excluded, perhaps because of disability, dementia or illness. We give extraordinary opportunities to engage in amazing musical experiences that can help change their lives.
Our impact on the communityIndependent evaluations show powerful impact of our work and outstanding track record using music as a tool to improve confidence, skills and emotional wellbeing. People feel less isolated, progress through challenging times and develop and transform their lives. Findings from evaluations with the disabled, refugees, the elderly and those with mental health issues all show dramatic improvements. Music making helps develop the emotional intelligence and wellbeing of children and young people.
