Prism helps local people in west Wales make changes in their alcohol and drug use to reduce harm.
Prism is the operating name of the Mid and West Wales Alcohol and Drug Advisory Service. Prism's purpose is to bring relief to individuals and communities in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Swansea, Neath-Port Talbot and Powys by the provision of a range of non-stigmatising, evidence-based alcohol and drug services. This includes the:
Promotion of the non-use or sensible use of alcohol.
Promotion of the non-use of illicit drugs and the appropriate use of legal drugs.
Why the community needs usPrism works with adults,young people and offenders across our area. We provide services as locally as possible. In 2010-11 we received over 2,000 referrals and helped at least 1,700 people. We run education programmes in primary and secondary schools. We are key to helping problem drinkers and drug users access information, advice and other services,and make changes in their behaviour. We work closely with statutory sector partners. We provide complementary Auricular Acupuncture for clients.
Our impact on the communityMost of our clients successfully complete their treatment and achieve their chosen goals. 94% clients rate our services as excellent or good. They like our services and staff, saying that they are friendly, professional, knowledgeable,experienced and non-judgemental. Clients like the regular appointments. In November 2011 Prism was the first organisation in Wales to be awarded the Centre of Excellence for Auricular Acupuncture by SMART UK.
