Pulp Friction provides volunteering opportunities for adults aged 16-24 with learning disabilities
Pulp Friction Smoothie Bar Project provides volunteering opportunities for young adults aged 16-24 to develop work-readiness, social and independence skills by taking our smoothie bikes to different community events - schools, youth clubs, playschemes, community festivals etc. All our volunteers work at their own pace and to their own strengths in a fun, friendly and supportive environment.
Why the community needs usMany young adults with learning disabilities find themselves isolated and lacking social and employment opportunities. Pulp Friction addresses these needs by providing employment, training and social activities. We run the smoothie bar, manage an allottment and run a choir. The community we serve see the ability and potential of young people who are learning disabled and engage with them in everyday activities.
Our impact on the communityWe will be employing 3 young adults with learning disabilities during 2013. We have volunteers, the majority of whom have a learning disability. One of our volunteers developed work skills with us which have led to a full time job with a local council. We work with a variety of local and national organisations and are on the festival circuit. We have established a mixed ability choir (35 members) which performs at local events. We run a soft fruit garden on a community allottment site.
We are always looking for volunteers to support our young people with learning disabilities and learning difficulties to run our pedal powered smoothie bike at events, join and support our members in our choir or even work with our members on our allotment.
