St John's Hospice provides free palliative care to patients with life shortening conditions
St John's Hospice has been part of the local community for almost thirty years and provides vital service to patients and families all over our community. Last year, over 1,200 people used our services, which included our in-patient unit, a day hospice service which runs weekly sessions to help patients manage symptoms and give carer respite and a Hospice at Home team which provides 24 hour short term nursing care for patients in the final stages of illness in their own home.
Why the community needs usOur aim is to ensure that on the journey towards the end of life, we provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time. We first opened our doors in 1986 and for 30 years those doors have never closed - day or night. We have provided hands-on nursing care for local people facing the most challenging time of their lives, we have supported their families and friends and we have walked alongside them during their bereavement journey for as long as they have needed us.
