Our main aim is to provide a pathway for athletes with a learning disability to have the opportunity to train, be coached and qualify through local and regional competitions to enter the Special Olympic National Games - (Bath August 2013).
In order to achieve this we have set up a weekly sports and social club which meets every Wednesday at YMCA Plymouth 6.30 to 8.30 for anybody with a learning disability aged 16 upwards.
Why the community needs usThere are very few opportunities for people with a Learning Disability to participate in Sports in our local area.
Sport is a great way of breaking down barriers, and really good for a persons fitness, self esteem and confidence and allows for social interaction.
Our impact on the communitySince the club started in September 2011 we have seen our members confidence and concentration whilst participating in sport improve tremendously.
Great friendships have been formed, athletes are taking an active role in how their club is run.
You are more than welcome to come along and see for yourself what a great time everybody has.
We would welcome anybody who would like to be a volunteer. We run a weekly sports and social club so assistance with our athletes who all have a learning disability and helping to run some of our sports would be fantastic. You do not need any previous experience or be expert at sport yourself but just be willing to come along and help, you will find the experience very rewarding.Should you be a coach in any sport we would love to hear from you, we try to introduce new sports as often as possible
