Young People's Support Service
New situations require new approaches. Splitz's learning is that, to be effective in delivering support to young people traumatised by domestic abuse, a new model of working is needed to address their manifest disadvantages. A model of work which is holistic, 'wraparound' and engages with the young people within their communities of support, namely school and the home environments using skilled practitioners and specially trained volunteers.
Why they need our service
Young people who have experienced the trauma and horrors of domestic abuse are recognised to often engage in risk-taking behaviour, substance misuse and involvement in anti-social or criminal activities, which can escalate until the young person requires a more costly and intensive intervention, including specialist mental health support. We offer non-judgmental advice, and support to build young people's resilience, and make a positive difference in their life.
Plan and expected results
In 55% of cases handled, we will evidence outcomes for the young people as 'needs fully met'.
we will demonstrate overall positive increases across most elements. As examples:
- a positive 41% understanding the impact of domestic abuse as not being their fault;
- a positive 26% on reported ability to concentrate at school.
- A positive 76% feeling more confident in dealing with sexual bullying
