Set on the delightful Gower coastline, St Madoc provides a retreat for vulnerable young people.

The St Madoc Christian Youth camp is a charitable trust occupying 76 acres of countryside on the beautiful Gower coastline. Gifted by Mr and Mrs. Burr in 1944 to Rev Maurice Charles, the “St Madoc Christian Youth Camp” was set up, described as one of the most important experiments in youth work that had no denominational boundaries. As the original farmhouse became a chapel an inscription was installed “While life was being shattered this place was given for healing of the soul” and this was to become a place where all are welcome. The Centre runs on the same principles to this day and is overseen by a board of trustees currently comprising of 7 members.

Why the community needs us
We believe that outdoor activity centres such as The St Madoc Centre are vitally important for the growth, development, wellbeing and mental health of the young people who visit.
Our impact on the communityWe feel it is vital that every pupil in the class has the opportunity to join their friends on residentials trips such as those taking place at The St Madoc Centre. Our Residential Support Fund enables us to subsidise school pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds who may otherwise have to miss out. Our aim is to give as many young people as possible the opportunity to experience a school residential trip accompanied by a variety of activities. This could be archery, orienteering, tree climbing, den building or even visiting the beach for the first time and we believe these memories will have a positive impact upon our guests throughout their lives.

Volunteers needed

Various ground maintenance assistance, painting, mending fences, gardening,. Updating Bird and Beach-life surveys. Creating activity courses.
