The 8 bells of St Mary's Church Pembroke are failing. They have sounded the key moments in our lives - marriages, deaths, commemorations, since 1763. The heaviest three bells can no-longer be rung because the supporting beams have parted company with the tower wall. Do you want the bells to ring for your childrens' weddings, for the next Remembrance Sunday, for the coronation of our new king? We want to keep the ancient art of change ringing going in Pembroke and hear the joyous sound of bells over the town again.
The St Mary's Bellringers are raising money to make that happen. We have raised £28,000 of the £100,000 needed.
We ring the bells for Sunday services, weddings, funerals, state and community events like the commemoration of the end of WW1 and the unveiling of the William Marshal statue.
We hope to augment the 8 bells to 10 to give more options for ringing and a much more pleasant sound.
Our project will make the bells easier to ring and we will be better able to teach local young people to ring them. We have 4 young people learning at the moment.
Just a pound a month from you would make a huge difference to the future of the bells.
Help secure our town's heritage. Contact us if you would like to see the bells and watch us ring them.
