There are many barriers in place in relation to young people seeking help should they experience these issues: Young people may not relate to the services and treatments, may not identify with those delivering the services and may have a preconceived idea of traditional clinical, 'hospitalised', approaches. We are a unique and modern service. We equip young people with the knowlege that depression and anxiety are nothing to be ashamed of and in no way a sign of weakness.
Why the community needs usWe offer free and immediate access to 'Beating the Blues' Computerised Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CCBT). This is unique as the vast majority of services have long waiting lists. We deliver informal educational workshops in all schools, training providers, colleges, youth hubs, sports clubs and young people's services in the area. We curate 'Astral Coast' the areas largest annual music festival, with the aim of inspiring discussion around depression and anxiety. We are a unique, modern service.
Our impact on the communityThose who access our service show marked decrease in levels and severity of depression/anxiety. They feel better in the here and now and are also better equipped for the future, should they experience similar feelings. 40% of existing service users have accessed no previous support for depression or anxiety despite experiencing long term symptoms. We are reaching young people who would not ordinarily access support, providing a friendly and unique service in which young people feel at ease.
