To promote and support the creativity and health of older people in villages around the River Tone.
To support the creativity and health of older members of our communities through inspiring dance and movement activity that promotes well being and fitness. Tone Dance has funding from Arts Council England to support the extend the reach of our work through our development as Company of Elders to make work that celebrates life as we age. This work will be led by Sue Way, professional dance teacher & artist & includes quality weekly classes, an outreach program, dance events & making a film.
Why the community needs usOur local communities are for the most part rural, with little organised physical activity for those over 50. In the past four years our members have noticed a real difference in their levels of confidence and happiness through dance. We believe the community benefits through us providing a regular class, outreach program & lots of creative opportunities. See our film on You Tube Search for Tone Dance and North Curry and see how it can be fun for you too.
Our impact on the communityThere is strong evidence from feedback that our weekly sessions increase physical fitness mobility, strength & flexibility, also emotional resilience & social well being through creativity, self expression & opportunities to recharge energy levels in a safe, supportive environment. Dance Events & outreach programs take this out in to the community who benefit greatly from sharing our love of music & movement through quality creative activity. "Lovely to dance with other people but in my own way"
More members to join the classes held by Tone Dance at North Curry and to take dance into the community supporting our dance practitioner to promote the benefits of dance and staying creative with older people across Somerset.
