UK's longest-running supported employment charity for people with learning difficulties/disabilities
We work to support as many people with learning difficulties/disabilities into sustainable employment. Our service is tailored to meet both the needs of the job-seeker and the employer by offering full support during the whole of the recruitment process; we work with employers to set up/find jobs that are suited to our clients' abilities and interests and offer on-the-job support and job coaching to meet the needs of our clients and their employers, as required.
Why the community needs usToucan Employment works with some of the community's most disadvantaged people. People with learning difficulties/disabilities only have an employment rate of between 5-15%. Employment for people with learning difficulties is just as important for people without learning difficulties, in terms of establishing identity and self-worth. Entering employment gives people their own earned income, the chance to develop new/improve existing skills, and great community integration to the benefit of all.
Our impact on the communitySince Toucan Employment's establishment (1989) we have worked with 100s of individuals and employers to promote the inclusion of disability in the workplace. In the last 10 years we have supported well over 550 people with learning difficulties/disabilities into paid employment with employers including all the major supermarkets, London hotels & museums, the Houses of Parliament, and many smaller employers. Last year we worked with 230 clients, and 163 were in work. Some for more than 15 years.
We are looking to improve our strategic marketing so a volunteer to help develop this and bettter use of our social media would be very beneficial for us, progressing forward. We are also always in need of additional volunteers to work with clients.
