W.A.I.T.S supports women suffering Domestic Abuse & empowers women to have a voice in society

WAITS is a registered charity established in 1993. WAITS mission is to enable women from diverse communities within the West Midlands to develop themselves and others. WAITS two main areas of work are: 1. Women's Support and Development Services supporting women affected by domestic abuse, in particular BAME and Chinese women, through advocacy, counselling, consultations and accommodation. Empowering Women- building the leadership skills of local women to engage with Decision Makers

Why the community needs us
Our work is needed in the community to change the statistics below:2 women a week in England and Wales are killed by a violent partner/ex-partner, almost 40% of all homicide victims (Home Office, 2005);Children who have witnessed domestic violence are 2 times more likely to behavioral problems than other children (British Crime survey).Women are still under-represented in their communities;

Our impact on the community
WAITS supports over 300 Domestic Abuse survivors and their children annually. Our Staff Supports women to report their abuse to police, supports mothers in child custody cases, provide safe accommodation for women fleeting Domestic Abuse from around the Country, provides Counselling to women in need of emotional support
