Batten House Project

A project by The Walk to Freedom Foundation

Each resident will have an activity based and structured model of supported housing consisting of, exercise classes, groups sessions, house work programme and weekly visits to the local sauna and sports facility, this will also be followed by a healthy eating regime that will also be implemented in to the programme. To enable residents to manage this form of living they will all be supported by peer mentors throughout the week.

Why they need our service

Within Luton there are many great providers who house people who are homeless but none specifically deliver supported structured housing that reduces the anxieties of going into residential drug and alcohol treatment while on long waiting lists, neither do they provide a niche community recovery programme that supports clients to finally understand on an individual and personal level of why they use drugs and or alcohol when they don't wish to and when they shouldn't use they still do.

Plan and expected results

This project will see up to 8 people who are homeless, housed and moved on into either more independent living or fully prepared for residential treatment with a more likely hood of successful recovery. Our summation, evidenced through qualitative and quantitative data evidencing is that the local community will continue to see a net positive impact on local council resources, social services, prison resources and a reduction in associated crime and anti social behaviour statistics.
