Haddenham Rovers Colts FC is going to attempt to cover 4.2 million steps during lockdown as part of their daily exercise (one step for every child living in poverty in the UK today) in order to raise funds for Ely Foodbank.
New research shows:
- Food banks are forecast to give out six emergency food parcels a minute this winter equating to 846,000 food parcels, which is a 61% increase.
- During the start of the pandemic around half of people who used a food bank had never needed one before
- Families with children have been hardest hit.
Local people donate food which is stored in our warehouse. A variety of agencies identify people who are in crises need and issue them with a food voucher. People can come to our distribution centres in Ely, March, Chatteris, Soham and Littleport to exchange the voucher for a food parcel which gives 3 days of food with a nutritional balance. At our centres people are welcomed, listened to, and can be offered other advice and signposting to help address their longer term needs.
Why the community needs us
The current national food poverty crises has left people across the country in genuine need. Foodbanks like Ely Foodbank enable local people to help local people who are in crises.
