Hello, my name is Amie-Louise, I’m 17 and I’m a young carer for my Mum as she has physical & mental health issues. I have been getting support from Wigan & Leigh Young Carers for sometime now & I have made some great friends & we stay in touch regularly as we have a WhatsApp group. I know I always have someone to talk to who understands me as one of the friends I have made has more than likely been in similar situations, we all support each other through anything we’re going through. The group leaders are amazing, they’re so warm & welcoming and really approachable too. We have our group once a month & we do all different activities, for example we have been to Ninja Warrior, bowling & pizza nights too. It’s so good going to group as it gives me & the opportunity to be a normal teenager for a few hours, to just be me & that’s so important because for a young carer we can loose our  identity & miss out on the things normal teenagers do. All the activities we do is paid for with kind donations & fundraising. During this stressful time with the Coronavirus all carers will be finding the situation stressful, especially young carers & I know once all of this is over myself & my friends will be in need of some timeout to have fun again. So, I am going to shave my hair off to raise funds for Wigan & Leigh Young Carers so we can continue to enjoy the group sessions once the isolation rules are lifted.
