Emily's Edinburgh Marathon

154% Raised

COVID 19 Change of plans:
Over the week leading up to Sunday 24th May 2020, I will run the Edinburgh Marathon VIRTUALLY on a treadmill in my home due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Lockdown has been hard as both Stills and my medication places me in the shielding category so I cannot leave the house to train or run. My charity is a small local charity who need donations now more than ever. The Treadmill is not my friend so this is far from an easy alternative!!

I am hoping to raise money for an awesome local charity SPACE Herts. SPACE enriches the lives of local children with ASD, ADHD and related conditions and provide support and education to their families.  Most of you may not have heard of SPACE so please do find out more on the link below. As a family we are extremely grateful for their support.

As you may or may not know, I started running just over 2 years ago. The impetus to start came from my then 5 year old daughter who wanted to run at junior parkrun. Panic set in there and then. Having been diagnosed with Adult Onset Stills disease in 2010, I had spent the best parts of my 20s and 30s 'being careful' and definitely 'not overdoing things'. I had settled into a risk averse lifestyle that now meant I was missing out joining in fun activities with my VERY active kids!

I started slowly, walking round Hartham Common with a cup of tea and was then pleased to be able to run a quarter of a 2km junior parkrun with my daughter. Soon after, in my old Converse trainers, half a junior parkrun, and then finally the whole 2km!

This rabbit hole sucked me in and I progressed to a 5km parkrun, a 10km race and then a very whimsical Half Marathon. I discovered I loved a challenge and began completing daft endeavours such as 8.5 parkruns in a day and the 24h Thunder Run trail relay.
All the while running 5km parkruns and junior parkruns with my daughter as my little leading light.
