About
May Moth-a-Thon (a weekend Moth Extravaganza!)

On the weekend of 22nd-25th May 2020 some of our local moth-recorders - including volunteers and supporters from Denmark Farm - will be taking part in Ceredigion’s first-ever “Moth-a-Thon” to raise funds for Denmark Farm Conservation Centre! As with many wildlife charities, Denmark Farm’s income from courses and holiday bookings is being significantly affected by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With tens of years of experience between them, our moth aficionados will donate their time and expertise to carry out a huge county-wide moth recording session. By using light traps, and identifying as many species as possible, we are hoping to record over 1000 individual moths of over 50 different species in the gardens of Ceredigion.

Moths live in a range of different habitats, so to record as many species as possible we’ve enlisted the help of “moth-ers” who live near coast, upland, marsh and woodland - and everywhere in between! We’ll be sharing some of their photos, so everyone can see the amazing variety of moths to be found in west Wales. All moths will be released unharmed.

The moth records they collect will be made available to our Local Records Centre (West Wales Biodiversity Information Centre) and Butterfly Conservation, and will provide valuable data to inform future conservation.

Please share our fundraising page with friends and family, and ask them to sponsor our event. Or give us a small donation if you can. Keep an eye on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/events/291398841875917/) on the weekend of 22nd May, to see photos of some of the stunning moths we find.
