Sharna's SkyDive for Unmasked Mental Health

Hi,

I'm Sharna, I live in Rishworth in Calderdale and I'm a volunteer for Unmasked Mental Health, a local charitable organisation who support people with poor mental health. Having experienced poor mental health personally as well as a number of friends and family members, this is a subject extremely close to my heart, I am the one in four people who have suffered from mental health issues.  I probably wouldn't have certain people in my life if it wasn't for the support Unmasked have given them so I am particulary passionate about this charity.

Poor mental health doesn't discriminate.  Look around you, look at your immediate and wider family, look at your close circle of friends. The person with a mental health problem might be sitting right next to you. They might be the joker, the hard worker, your most intelligent colleague, the one you would never suspect to be suffering – because that’s the thing: those who have depression, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and more are so scared of the three in four who are “normal” finding out that they make sure they are brilliant at covering it up. They smile, they say they are fine, they get on with their day as best they can and often suffer in complete silence. 

Unmaksed Mental Health provide peer to peer hubs and counselling sessions for people who are experiencing poor mental health.  They also run Mental Health training and awareness sessions to employers to help them support employees in the workplace.  

On Saturday 8th October 2022, I am doing a skydive from 15,000 feet to raise money to help Unmasked open more peer to peer hubs in Calderdale and provide more counselling sessions. I have never jumped out of a plane before and the thought terrifies me, in fact wearing a pair of high heeled shoes makes me nauseous!

Please help me raise the funds they desperately need to support the people who need help in our comunities.  

Remember, suicidal doesnt always look suicidal.
