I spend a great deal of time talking to young people about the importance of believing in themselves, having the confidence to try new things and not being daunted by challenges in their lives.
When this Mighty Abseil was announced it prompted me to reflect on the importance of 'walking the talk', rather than just 'talking the talk'. As I have had a lifelong fear of heights, this would give me the opportunity to practise what I preach, so I signed up! The decision was also positively influenced by the fact that it is the Youth Bank which will benefit from the sponsorship of this event.
When I told my husband and children of my decision they were very supportive (but I'm still not sure whether they believe I will really do it!).
As you might guess, I am a fervent champion of anything we can do to enhance and enrich the lives of our children and young people, so if you could see your way to sponsoring my attempt at abseiling, to whatever extent, I and they would be most appreciative.
