Aspire Programme creates social space with 9-18 year-olds with Asperger syndrome or other high- functioning Autistic Spectrum Conditions. It promotes emotional well being, and the development of social skills and friendships through: * group settings where autism is understood * 1:1 family support * life skills development * trips and activities during holidays
Why they need our serviceIn Cambridgeshire, 570 young people are estimated to have autism. Autism affects the whole family. Families with autistic young people experience an 85% divorce rate with 2/3 mothers suffering with stress. The impact on the young people is drastic, creating uncertainty and instability. The recent increase in parent/ young person suicide rates amongst autistic families is extra cause for concern.
Plan and expected resultsAspire will directly benefit at least 50 young people from Cambridgeshire with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) such as Asperger's Syndrome. The project will also benefit their families.
