Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lakes

Any family trying to get outdoors and active in today's high tech world can find it hard to compete with increasing screen time. But for families of children with additional needs this is especially so, as many traditional sports and after school clubs do not offer the flexibility and support required by those needing a little more time or space. Sprout is project enabling families of children with needs to access fun social outdoor activities without judgement or pressure. A place to relax and be themselves and this is my chosen charity! My challenge will begin on 6th November with a 7Km trek into the Himalayas arriving at 2610m, followed on the 7th by a 10Km trek, where the real climbing starts up to Namche Bazaar at 3440m. On Nov 8th there will be a chance to acclimatise to the air conditions with the walk continuing on the 9th - 7Km to Khumjung. A 5Km trek on the 10th, through lush valleys with rhododendron forests ends at 4050m at Dole. Sunday 11th to Machermo at 4470m where the air is thinner requiring a slower pace - allows an opportunity to take in the amazing mountain scenery. On Monday 12th Nov there will be a further acclimatisation day but we'll be back on Tuesday climbing to 4790m with a 7Km walk to Gokyo. The mornings may start with a dusting of snow now as the temperature decreases and the journey will go via the holy Gokyo lakes, with a trek of 8Km on Wed to 4700m at Dragnak, across the summit of Gokyo Ri (5420m). Thursday will involve crossing the summit of Cho La Pass (5420m) descending over the glacier. 16th Nov - the trek will be 7Km to Labuche followed by 7Km on the 17th to arrive at Everest Base camp at 5364m! On the 18th I'll climb to the summit of Katar Pathar at 5550m above sea level to watch the sunrise over Mount Everest before beginning my return journey. I'm currently training for this challenge and you can show your support by sponsoring me and in doing so support a really good cause, helping others get outdoors together!
