The Mulberry Tree trust was established when our local under 5s playgroup was a victim of cuts to front line local services in 2011. It seemed unthinkable to lose the One O'Clock club, as it had been known since the 60s (even though it has opened at 12.30pm since the 80's), especially as to many parts of the community it was more than just a place to bring the kids but the beginning of friendships that last a lifetime. A dedicated group of volunteers came together to form the Mulberry Tree trust which manages the building and works with the Big Red Bus Club providing for the last two years, free under 5's stay and play sessions four times a week. And although the main priority is the children, we'd like to think parents and carers see the club as a meeting place, somewhere to share frustrations and achievements, as well as a vital source of advice and support with local council benefits advisors attending. But we get no funding and we they don't want to charge kids and their families to repair the much needed heating and lighting. It's hard asking families for money especially when over 50% are from deprived neighbourhoods. So I'm asking you. Dig deep, put your hand in your pocket and sponsor me on Sunday 6th October as I ride the 100 km from the centre in Charlton to Whitstable in Kent. If you're broke - don't worry I'm looking for company come along and join me. But do get involved in any way you can.
Good work!
Thank you Tony White,Adam's dad!
Thanks Corinne Micallef for your support!
I am so happy to donate to the Big Red Bus Club. The work they do is very vital for the local comunity.
