Great North Run 2018 for Thirsk Community Care

I'm aiming to raise at least £1000 for Thirsk Community Care by running this year's Great North Run. The money will go towards funding their Memory Cafe - a fantastic monthly event for local people living with dementia. I'm not a natural runner and training is proving tough, so please donate what you can. You'll not only be helping a very worthy local cause, but your support will also spur me on with my training! This is my story and why I have chosen Thirsk community Care. I have known Ann Garside and her husband Alan for almost 20 years. Ann has always been the life and soul of the party and a really bubbly, chatty, fantastic person and a truly great friend. Five years ago, Ann was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia. She is now in full time care. She is just 57 years young. All forms of dementia are cruel to those suffering with it and to their family and loved ones that have to witness the decline in someone they hold so dear. Prior to Ann being in full time care, both Ann and Alan received help and support from a fantastic group of people at Thirsk Community Care. Their help and support helped prolong Ann's independence and time at home with Alan. Without this, Ann may well have been in full time care much sooner. Thirsk Community Care are a local charity helping older people, vulnerable women and children with disabilities to live active, independent and fulfilled lives. The Memory Cafe runs every month and offers local people living with dementia, along with their carers, friends or family, a light lunch, activities, and advice. Thirsk Community Care provide a fantastic service for the community and deserve all the help and support we can give.
