Erase Meso Lands End to John o'Groats Cycle 2019

15 amateur cyclists will cycle 100 miles a day from Lands End to John O'Groats in 10 days starting on 9th Sep 2019. 
Team mates Paul & Nigel have terminal mesothelioma (asbestos cancer) so this is a huge challenge given the nature of this aggressive disease...and has never been attempted before.
We will climb around 15,000m over the 10 days. That is around 13 times up Alpe d’Huez or almost twice the height of Everest!

Erase Meso - The Story

Paul Cook was 43, & fighting fit when his lung suddenly collapsed and was diagnosed with mesothelioma (asbestos cancer). He was told it was terminal and there is no cure.
6 chemo rounds/surgery/radiotherapy/& 1.5 working lungs later, Paul survived... He is now in remission and vowed to raise research funds to find a cure for mesothelioma.  Hence the charity Erase Meso was born.

How the funding will be spent

We aim to fund a number of leading-edge research projects in future...most probably in the areas of immunotherapy and CAR-T cell therapy. These projects are closest to a cure but have limited funds. We will also endeavour to keep you posted as to exactly where the money has gone and what we have achieved with your donations and support.

How this will benefit the community

The UK currently has the highest incidence of meso in the world - 5000 deaths a year..and rising. Despite being banned in 1999, asbestos is still found in over 50% homes and 9/10 NHS hospitals. 12 people are diagnosed a day yet there is no current cure and prognosis is poor. Extra funding goes a long way in finding a cure for this devastating disease.
