Food Bank Volunteers Barefoot Walk!

100 years ago, it was common to see children running barefoot around the fields of East Ham, hungry and without proper clothing. Sadly, the pandemic has highlighted that some of challenges we faced 100 years ago still exist today.

We are volunteers at the Bonny Downs food bank in East Ham. In the eight years that the food bank has been running, we've never seen such high demand. Every week we meet wonderful families in urgent need of food and clothes for their children due to the pandemic. It is our privilege to support them by giving them emergency food parcels and directing them to other services the charity runs to help them with their wider poverty challenges.

That's why we've set up this page to raise funds for our neighbours in need and help them get back on their feet after the pandemic. In solidarity with them, we're joining the Bonny Downs Barefoot Challenge on Saturday 12 June and walking a mile barefoot around Flanders Field in East Ham.

If you are in a position do so, please would you sponsor us as we walk a mile with no shoes to raise money for our neighbours in need? £15 could buy a new pair of shoes for a child living in poverty, or provide an emergency food parcel for a hungry small family. And no donation is too small - every pound will make a difference! All the money we raise will go directly to our food bank and families project.
