Geoff and Dave's Italian Job.

Geoff Platten and Dave Gregory have know each other since the late 60's when they were both engineering apprentices and owned Mini's as their first cars. They lost touch with each other in the 70's when they both moved from the Cheltenham area. Geoff tracked Dave down after over 40 years and they met up again last year. Very quickly over a few beers they hatched a plan to acquire a classic Mini and enter "The Italian Job". Geoff purchased the Mini , pictured above, and the rest will be history! The Italian Job is a charity run to Italy open for any make or model of vehicle appearing in the Italian Job film. Once in Italy there are 6 days of navigating and driving exercises along with a scenic tour of the film locations. This year is the 28th running of the event which raises money for children's charities with over £2.5M raised to date. This years main charity is Variety which helps to improve the young lives of less fortunate children by providing practical help (such as Sunshine Coaches, wheelchairs and specialist equipment) and memorable childhood experiences. It means that children have fewer bad days and more great days. With independence, freedom and dignity they are able to make the most of their childhood. We will be holding a number of fund raising events and hope to see you at one. We have surpassed our minimum target for Variety and Geoff is now raising money for a charity local to him in Trowbridge - Stepping Stones District Specialist Centre. Stepping Stones is an Opportunity Group for children with special needs in the West Wiltshire area. “Special Needs” being the term we use for identifying children who will benefit from specific therapy and support to help meet their potential. Children from birth to five, with varying levels of need attend the group. Stepping Stones operates as the District Specialist Centre for West Wiltshire.
