Spencer Simmons cycles LEJOG for PramDepot

At 60 Spencer is finally putting his legs where his mouth is and doing what he has talked about for many years, which is to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats, a journey of about 1100 miles. The plan is to do the route in 13 days and he will be in a supported group of 15 riders. If you are going to do something crazy then you might as well do it for a great cause and hopefully raise lots of money. Spencer is raising money for PramDepot, a local community project that recycles baby clothes and equipment and passes them to vulnerable new mums for their babies. This project supports around 400 women a year, and helps to keep tons of textiles, metals and plastics out of landfill. PramDepot is inundated with donations from the local community and struggles to fund the on-going costs of running the project. It needs more than £1500 a month to process and store these items until they are delivered to the mums. All the money raised will help to maintain and run the storage space as well as pay for new items such as new Moses basket mattresses, nappies and toiletries. PramDepot works with some of the most vulnerable women in London, they are often living on less than £50 per week and 95% of them have no other way of providing these items for their new babies. They are all referred to PramDepot by 20 different organisations including midwives from the vulnerable midwife teams across London who refer: refugees; trafficked women; women in domestic violence units; women in prison; women with mental health issues and women escaping modern day slavery.
